Some History...
The first seeds for ICVolunteers were planted in 1997, when Viola Krebs led the recruitment of more than 800 volunteers to help coordinate and report on the 12th World AIDS Conference in Geneva (Switzerland). Following the success of this event, individuals who wanted to continue to work together formed an ongoing team of conference organizers and volunteers. In 1999, "International Conference Volunteers" (ICV), an international non-governmental organization based in Geneva, was founded to provide a permanent structure for its work.
Growth of Our Network and Activities
Since its creation, thanks to the support of its donors and its network of volunteers, ICVolunteers has continued its activities in terms of local, national and international conferences on current affairs, social, humanitarian, ecological and scientific topics. Over the years, ICVolunteers has extended its field of activities to several other initiatives and programs always within its core mission and in accordance to its values. United Nations Recognition
In 2003, ICVolunteers obtained associative status with the Department of Public Information of the United Nations (DPI). In 2005, the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC) granted ICVolunteers special consultative status. This recognition has given us greater direct access to UN conferences and events, enabling us to provide our services more quickly and efficiently and contribute actively to UN discussions.
Geographic Expansion
As ICVolunteers has grown, our activities have become more decentralized. While an important part of our work continues to take place in and around Geneva, we now have offices and representatives in a number of other parts of the world.
Creation of ICVolunteers Federation
Feeling the need to adapt our institutional framework in accordance with our activities, ICVolunteers launched in October 2005 a new organizational structure, transforming itself into an international federation with national offices and associate partners in various parts of the world.
ICV Arcade
In the last couple of years, ICV has concentrated on more local activities, with ICV Arcade 'The Arcade', local connections to music and citizenship, as well as more international activities around technology and digital literacy, including, recently AI.
Un peu d'histoire...
Les débuts d'ICVolontaires remontent à 1997, lors du 12e Congrès Mondial du VIH/SIDA (Suisse) pour lequel Viola Krebs recrute plus de 800 volontaires. Suite au succès de cet événement, certains ont poursuivit leur engagement en tant qu'organisateurs et volontaires de conférences et ont formé une équipe qui deviendra en 1999, "International Conference Volunteers" (ICV), une organisation internationale non gouvernementale dont le siège est à Genève.
Développement du réseau et de nos activités
Depuis sa création, grâce au soutien de ses donateurs et à son réseau de volontaires, ICVolontaires a poursuivi ses activités en matière de conférences locales, nationales et internationales, sur des sujets d'actualité, sociaux, humanitaires, écologiques et scientifiques. La reconnaissance des Nations Unies
ICVolontaires a obtenu le statut associatif en 2003 au près Département de l'Information Publique des Nations Unies (DPI), et le statut consultatif spécial en 2005, par le Conseil Economique et Social des Nations Unies (ECOSOC). Ces statuts permettent un accès direct aux conférences et événements de l'ONU, et offrent l’opportunité de proposer nos services de façon plus rapide et efficace.
Expansion géographique
Depuis sa fondation les activités d’ICVolontaires se sont décentralisées. Si la partie importante de nos actions se déroulent à Genève, il existe également des bureaux et des représentations dans d'autres régions du monde.
Création de la Fédération
Comte tenu du nombre croissant de ses champs d'activités, ICVolontaires a adopté un nouveau cadre institutionnel devenant, en octobre 2005, une fédération internationale composée de bureaux nationaux et de partenaires associés dans différents pays.
ICV Arcade
Au cours des deux dernières années, ICV s'est concentrée sur des activités plus locales, avec ICV Arcade, des liens locaux avec la musique et la citoyenneté, ainsi que des activités plus internationales autour de la technologie et de l'alphabétisation numérique, y compris récemment l'IA.
